Every year, Pinecrest 6th graders get the opportunity to become inventors, dreaming up useful and imaginative machines and gadgets. This year, our Invention Convention had some especially creative ideas demonstrated. Congratulations to the students whose projects are displayed below for their 1st through 3rd Place winning inventions!

  • Cap the Can by Amneh Y. (1st Place)
This invention modifies the design of a regular soda can by changing two things about the can. First, people always complain about the top of the can because it is always dirty and they always have to clean it. So, what this invention does is that the top of the can is stretched higher so that after you open the can, the dirty little flap does not touch your soda. The second main change adds an attachable cap that is strong enough to prevent soda from spilling and gas from escaping from the soda.
  • HKA (Help Kit for Autism) by Laura M. (2nd Place)
H.K.A. is a kit to help Austistic children and their parents. The kit includes a doll that teaches the child basic social and conversational skills, a DVD that addresses the topic of emotions, and a flip book of sensations. It also includes a headband with earplugs attached to the sides, so nobody knows the child is covering their sensitive ears when situations get too loud. The kit comes with a book of therapists to call regarding autism. The purpose of the kit is to address three struggles that Austic children deal with on a daily basis:
    1. Social and Conversations Skills
    2. Sensitive Hearing
    3. Communication Through Sensation

With this kit, Austic children can learn to cope with these struggles.
  • Easy On Butter Stick by Sarah L. (3rd Place)
New convenient style makes buttering so much easier for kids and adults. New applicator keeps butter fresh and size is easy to handle.
