Part III - Student Life

All students are checked out through the front gate, only. Students may be paged, or you maypark and pick up your child. No students may wait in the corridor or by the front gate.

Birthdays, Holidays, etc.

Birthdays are important milestones in a child’s life!  If your child wishes to share treats with the class, please let the teacher know several days in advance so that time may be set aside from the regular program.

A tradition at Pinecrest is to mark this special day by making a hardcover book donation to our library. We will affix a bookplate with your child’s name and date of donation. Our librarian will be happy to help you select an appropriate book.

To avoid hurt feelings, party invitations, Valentines, etc., should not be distributed at school unless everyone in the class will receive one.  (If you are planning a smaller party, the office will be happy to address cards for mailing. Please have the invitee’s name and a stamp on the envelope.)

Library

The elementary school library is located next to the dance room. There is a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction titles, as well as encyclopedias and other reference materials, and computer stations. Students may check out books during regular class visits, or at other times when the library is open for study and reference. Students must reimburse the library for lost or damaged books. Fundraisers help maintain and expand our multimedia library. Donations of books and assistance are always welcome!

Lockers

Students in Grades 4 and 5 are issued a locker. Watches and jewelry, which must not be worn during P.E. classes, should be left in a locked locker. Lock combinations must not be shared with friends; nor should a student ever enter the locker of another student. To do so may result in the suspension of locker privileges. Any Pinecrest textbooks, workbooks or other supplies found unattended will be held by the office and a “Good Deed” may be required for their return to the student.

Lost and Found

It is important that you mark all of your child’s property, such as backpacks, articles of clothing, books, etc., with your child’s name. Each year, countless valuable items are lost because we can’t identify the owners. All items found on the yards or in the classrooms are placed in the lost-and-found container located on each yard. These items are sorted as soon as possible. At the end of each quarter, all lost-and-found items not claimed will be donated to charity.

Special Interest Groups

Pinecrest students have many opportunities to pursue special interests. Our after school schedule provides a balance of active and quiet activities. Our sports program (2nd grade and up) is open to everyone, regardless of ability level. In addition, many other “fee” classes are offered, such as grade-level math labs, dance, drama, piano, and other “discovery classes.” Sign up information will be sent home before October 1st .
