Mary Todd Lincoln
by Sean I.

Mary Ann Todd was born on December 13, 1818 in Lexington, Kentucky. She married Abraham Lincoln in 1839 and had four children. She became the First Lady in 1861. She provided support for many soldiers and blacks during the Civil War. She also opposed slavery and strongly supported her husband's pro union policies. After President Lincoln was assassinated, Mary moved to Europe. She died in 1882 due to a possible stroke.
Mary Todd Lincoln was the daughter of Robert Smith Todd and Eliza Parker.
Mary Todd was deeply in love with her husband, and sometimes resented his absence from their home as he practiced law and compaigned for the presidency.
She was temperamentally high strung and touchy and sometimes acted irrationally.
Unfortunately, out of four children, only Robert and Tad lived until adulthood.
