Rosa Parks:
Born 1913, died 2005
She was a seamstress in Montgomery, Alabama. She refused to give up her seat on a city bus to a white man, and was arrested for violating the laws of segregation. She inspired a 13-month boycott of Montgomery city buses instigated by Martin Luther King. Jr. Her case led to a passing of a bill - the 1964 Civil Rights Act that made made civil rights a law for people of all races.
She joined the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and became the secretary.
