Regional Animal Habitats

Scorpion
by Ryan M.

A scorpion is an anthropod with eights legs. Spiders, mites and ticks are also part of this class. There are approximately 2,000 species of scorpions. In the U.S., scorpions are most common in Southern Arizona and in the desert areas extending through central Texas and central Oklahoma. Scorpions are known to glow when exposed to certain types of ultraviolet light. Their venom is used to subdue prey and to defend against threats.
