Sea Otter
by Lujain H.
The Sea Otter is native to the Northern Pacific region, from northern Japan, across the coastal areas to California. Sea Otters have thick brown fur with densities of 26,000 to 165,000 hairs per square centimeter to assist in retaining heat. They were hunted just for their luxurious fur. Due to over hunting, their population was reduced from about 200,000 to 2,000, making them become an endangered species. Luckily, by 1911, the otters have since been legally protected.
