Kit Fox

Kit is short for kitten. Fox is an old English word for the animal. The Kit Fox lives in the western United States and northern Mexico. Like other foxes, it has a lean body, long slender legs, and a plume shaped tail. It has the largest ears of any other North American fox. It is the smallest fox in the Canid family.
This animal hunts at night and eats rodents, insects, rabbits, ground nesting birds, and reptiles. This animal is almost extinct. Kit foxes are generally unafraid of people and are far less cunning than other foxes. They are easily trapped or poisoned. Male and female Kit foxes establish pairs during the months of October and November. pairs can change from year to year. Litters are born throughout March and April, usually containing 3 to 14 young foxes.
