During the school year, students participate in cocurricular
activities as part of the school day. Each class is taught by a specialist
in their field. Classes include Art,
Computers, Music, Physical
Education and Spanish. The students are scheduled for these classes
daily, weekly, or bi-weekly.
Pinecrest promotes active involvement in visual and
performing arts.
Our student artists in Elementary and Middle School
are taught a variety of art techniques, and often find themselves amazed at what they accomplish.
In
addition to music classes, the stage at Pinecrest is used throughout the
year for peformances by our students. Visit Pinecrest in December and
will see marvelous holiday programs that
give our students the chance to gain confidence on stage and showcases
some of the exceptional talent of
our students. In the spring, you will be enchanted by dance
recitals, in
which students in kindergarten through middle school shine, as they peform
ballet, jazz, tap and hip-hop numbers that they have worked so hard to
perfect.
Preschool
has their own music program and music
teacher, who channels the children's natural love of music so they learn
about movement and musical instruments, and develop a repetoire of songs.
Physical Education is an important part of the Pinecrest
curriculum. During P.E. classes students are taught the importance
of regular physical
exercise.
They learn
both individual
and
group sports and are encouraged to challenge themselves physically. Swim
lessons are part of students' June curriculum. All swim instructors are Red
Cross
certified.
Pinecrest has an excellent after school sports
program that includes basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer
and swimming.
Learn more about this program by visiting our SPORTS page.
Spanish
classes begin in preschool, when children are at an age where they quickly
pick up vocabulary. Classes continue each year as students build their Spanish
language skills. Learning about Spanish cultures is also an important part
of the curriculum.
The computer lab is an important center on campus.
In addition to learning keyboarding, a variety of applications
and programs are used to teach students the value of the computer
as a tool in learning.
