The
Pinecrest Van Nuys Junior Kindergarten program is designed for
young people who are ready for a full day program; who demonstrate
maturity and intellectual curiosity; and who exhibit a readiness
and eagerness for a fuller academic program. Our goal is to provide
a nurturing environment within which the developmental need of
each child will be met. Readiness skills will be strengthened prior
to the Kindergarten experience. We recognize the uniqueness of
each child. The pace may differ from student to student, but all
children will be guided to develop their thinking process to their
fullest abilities. Our purpose is to enable the children to continue
their enthusiasm to become self-motivated students, eager and ready
to learn.
Philosophy
Each child's self-esteem is crucial to healthy, intellectual,
and social growth. Successful learning experiences, based on the
child's level of readiness, develop students and help them excel.
We believe this program succeeds with a limited class size of twenty-four
students, and two teachers. With our supportive and nurturing staff,
the students experience a variety of academic and age appropriate
challenges within the presented curriculum.
Curriculum
The curriculum, which is provided for the children,
is designed to develop verbal skills, reading, writing, mathematics,
phonics, environment and science. Children accepted into this program
will use textbooks to gain knowledge.
General Information
Acceptance into Junior Kindergarten program is determined
by the preschool teacher's evaluation, and the preschool's director's
evaluation. All children will be assessed before acceptance into
the program. Our Junior Kindergarten program will begin in September
and conclude in June. Class starts promptly at 8:30 a.m. and concludes
at 3:30 p.m. This is a five full day program.
