The Honor Guard at Pinecrest Van Nuys has been a tradition since 1951. The Honor Guard recognizes Pinecrest students who have pride in themselves and in their school. Members will be allowed to help the administration, teachers, coaches and other Pinecrest faculty members with special activities and events. These activities and events will range from specific duties during fundraisers, open houses and carnivals to community projects such as canned food drives, as well as special tasks and responsibilities during school.
To be considered for Honor Guard, a student must maintain a “C” or better GPA. Teacher recommendations, taking into consideration a student’s academic performance as well as citizenship, are required for each student.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What
is the Honor Guard?
The Pinecrest Honor Guard
is a group of exceptional 5th and 6th grade students
who
have been chosen by their teachers and faculty because
of their record of excellent behavior and outstanding
classwork. These are students who deserve extra
attention for their good behavior, and are rewarded
by working one-on-one with faculty members in jobs
of responsibility
and honor.
2. What does the Honor Guard
do?
The Honor Guard will basically help out teachers, coaches
and staff members during school activities such as
lunches, recesses and assemblies, and might also be
involved in after-school events as well, should there
be a need (i.e. dances, open houses, carnivals, fundraisers,
etc.). Parents will always have a say in which
activities their children will or will not participate.
3. Does the Honor Guard cost
anything?
At this time, no. Pinecrest will supply pins,
awards and rewards free of charge. The only cost
may occur when purchasing dress shirts for "Uniform
Days" (every Friday), but our fundraisers should
defer this cost greatly.
4. Miscellaneous
The Honor Guard will have officers,
awards, special functions and uniforms. There will
be opportunities for all its members to be involved in
events. New members may apply every quarter after
report cards are distributed. Advancement and officer
candidacy will be based on a Merit/Demerit system. The
Honor Guard is NOT a military organization like
R.O.T.C. Discipline, responsibility and good manners
will be involved throughout.
