PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK

CAMPUS DEMEANOR (including Classroom Standards and Personal Conduct) A Pinecrest student is expected to:

  1. Behave in an orderly, courteous and responsible way at all times.
  2. Arrive at class on time each day, study diligently, and work without disturbing others.
  3. Behave in a manner that does not harm another person, verbally or physically.
  4. Care for personal and school property.  Respect the property of others.
  5. Remain only in areas of the school designated for student use and supervised by an adult.
  6. Understand that inappropriate language or disrespect towards adults will never be tolerated.
  7. Address all adults on campus by their proper title, such as “Miss”, “Mrs.”, “Mr.” followed by the last name, or “Coach” or “Nurse” followed by their last name.
  8. Understand that Pinecrest is committed to providing an environment free of discrimination and physical or verbal abuse.  Actions, words, jokes, or comments based on an individual’s gender, race, ethnicity, age, religion, etc. will not be tolerated.  Bullying of any kind is absolutely unacceptable and may be cause for suspension or expulsion.
  9. Understand that gum-chewing is not permitted at school under any circumstances.
  10. Keep all toys (including CD players, cell phones, pagers, PDA’s or others electronics equipment) at home.

In order to enjoy a happy and successful year, we expect you to take these responsibilities seriously.  We believe that your best behavior results in your best learning!  Therefore, infractions of these basic codes of Campus Demeanor may result in the following consequences:

        *First infraction may result in a Behavior Alert Notice to be sent home from the supervising teacher/coach and the Vice Principal or Principal.  Parent signature is required.  An appropriate recess detention and/or any other consequences may apply.

       *Second infraction may result in your parent being called to the school for a conference with the Vice Principal or Principal.

       *Third infraction may be cause for suspension, which will appear on your permanent record.

      *Fourth infraction may be cause for your dismissal from Pinecrest School.
Students who consistently violate the Honor Code and/or frequently have Behavior Alert Notices will have their campus citizenship lowered to an S- or N.  This will exclude you from the Honor Roll.

DISCIPLINE AND DETENTION POLICY: The administration and faculty consider disciplinary policies as a valuable tool to promote self-control and respect from yourself and others.

Behavior Alert Notice– from teacher or coach 10-20 minute Detention.

Discipline Report – from Principal or Vice-Principal.

(Will be filed in students permanent records) 20 minute Detention for 2-5 days depending on severity of problem reported.  This is a time for you to reflect on your actions and resolve to make better choices.

GROUNDS FOR DETENTION:
-Uniform violations or unacceptable appearance.
-Excessive tardiness
-Disruptive behavior in class
-Coming to class unprepared
-Missing class work or homework
-Stealing
-Lying or cheating
-Opening, disturbing, or occupying other student’s lockers
-Rude and discourteous to teachers, staff and peers
-Bullying
-Teasing or name calling
-Defiance
-Bad or inappropriate behavior or language
-Disrespect of school property or other student’s property.
-Littering on campus
-Any other violation for which a student is referred to the Principal or Vice-Principal.

TELEPHONES, CELLPHONES, PDA’S: Telephones in the school offices are used for school business ONLY.  If you should have an emergency at school, please tell your teacher.  If a phone call needs to be made, your teachers will send you to the office, where one of the office personnel will place the call for you.  (No calls home when it is early dismissal.)  You may NOT bring the following items to school – pagers, PDA’s or others electronics equipment.  

PLAYGROUND CONDUCT: Our goal is to have a safe playground, where everyone can enjoy the equipment.  Your teacher and the Coaches will help you learn the rules for the swings, slides and other equipment on the yard.  Please remember that you must:

  1. Always walk through school hallways and playground equipment areas.
  2. Always use the playground equipment properly, as instructed by your classroom teacher and the Coaches.
  3. Always use a soft ball when practicing throwing and catching, SAND, ROCKS AND STICKS ARE NEVER CONSIDERED TOYS TO BE THROWN!  Please keep tennis balls, baseballs, Frisbees, and VORTEX toys at home.
  4. Always use the picnic tables to eat snacks and always throw all wrapper and containers away in the trash cans.
  5. Always ask permission to leave the yard for any reason.
  6. Always remain in your assigned playground area.  It is unsafe to be “out of bounds”.
  7. Always remember to watch carefully for cars or buses before walking across the driveway by the courts.
  8. Always walk up and down the stairs.

COMPUTER USE POLICY: The world-wide web offers vast, diverse and unique resources to both students and teachers, but the use of the Internet must be in support of education and research and consistent with the educational objectives of our school.  You will receive training on the rules and responsibilities of internet use, as well as appropriate methods for searching on the Internet.  The use of the Internet is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use will result in cancellation of these privileges.  The administration will determine what inappropriate use is and their decision is final.  In addition, your parents have the option of denying you access to the Internet at school.
