PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK
BOOK AND SUPPLY RULES: Pinecrest will provide you with all the textbooks and workbooks you will need to have a successful school year.
*To make sure your textbooks remain in good condition, you must cover them as soon as you receive them and keep them covered throughout the year. Please do not use CONTACT or other sticky paper! You may purchase “Book Sox” at the beginning of the year or make your own book covers out of sturdy paper. Please write your name and the date you received your book NEATLY where your teacher tells you.
*Always keep your books in your desk or locker as required, unless you are taking them home in your backpack for Homework. Backpacks are not to be used for storage during the school day. Respect your textbooks and workbooks! Keep them in the proper places. A charge will be made for lost or damaged books.
*Library books are a wonderful privilege and must also be treated with the greatest of care and respect. Our librarian will discuss Library Rules with you at your first class.
*In August, we mailed home a letter from your teacher, indicating supplies that should be brought from home. Remember that it will be your responsibility to keep a proper supply of these items at school throughout the year. Make sure everything you bring to school has your name on it.
*Your teacher will tell you on the first day of school where you should store your backpack before and after school.
BACKPACK POLICY: Backpacks are solely used to transport student materials to and from school. Backpacks are to be stored in cubbies outside the classrooms. Fifth and sixth graders may store their EMPTY backpacks in their lockers or on the shelves outside of their homeroom classroom. All backpacks must be stored neatly on shelves and off the walkways and hallways. Remember, NO backpacks are to be left out on the playground at any time. This policy alleviates overcrowded pathways and classrooms which help make our campus a safe environment for students to pass from class to class.
LOCKER POLICY (5TH & 6TH GRADES): You are responsible enough now to take care of your own lockers. All of your personal items and books must be stored in your locker. One will be assigned to you for your books, and a second one for your P.E. clothes. You will purchase a padlock from the school for your book locker. You may bring a padlock from home for your P.E. locker (no laser locks, please!) The security of your locker is your responsibility. Therefore, you are NEVER to share your combination with another student, nor should a student ever enter the locker of another student. By doing so, you may have your locker privilege suspended. Your locker privileges may also be suspended if you leave your textbooks out on shelves or on the playgrounds. Administration also reserves the right to conduct random and/or regular locker inspections.
CAFETERIA BEHAVIOR: Good dining room manners at Pinecrest foster a pleasant eating atmosphere for all. These include:
*Lining up properly outside the Cafeteria before being invited in. Lining up again after table inspection before dismissal from the Cafeteria.
*Sitting at your assigned table, facing forward with feet down and remaining in your seat until dismissed by the coach.
*Using conversational “inside voices” at all times.
*Using well-mannered eating behavior, as discussed in your classroom with your teacher.
*Raising your hand to receive permission from a Coach to leave your seat before lunch is finished.
*Cleaning up and discarding ALL trash before being dismissed by the Coach.
BUS RULES: Safety is the most important part of our rules for riding the bus. For that reason, please remember:
*Board the bus quietly and go to the seat assigned by the driver.
*Remain seated at all times while the bus is in motion and until the driver gives permission to exit the bus.
*Sit facing forward with your back against the seat.
*Always use quiet, inside voices.
*Leave the windows alone. Never extend ANYTHING out of the window or make any motions of any kind at drivers on the road.
*Never throw anything while inside the bus.
*Never damage the bus itself.
*Respect the property of others.
*PROMPTLY obey all the directions of the driver.
