DISCOVERY CLASSES
These classes are offered to encourage interest and enhance skills in areas beyond our basic curriculum. Fees for these classes are paid to the class instructor with an average cost of $120 per session. Most classes meet weekly after school or during non-academic periods during the school day. CLASSES START THE FIRST WEEK OF OCTOBER AND RUN EACH QUARTER; SEE ENROLLMENT FORMS FOR START DATES, CLASS TIMES AND COSTS.
How to Enroll: Pick-up Enrollment Forms in the Office. Return completed FORM and PAYMENT ASAP. Classes are filled on a first come basis. The teacher will contact you to confirm enrollment as most classes have both minimum and maximum enrollment to start.
DANCE (All Grades) School Day Schedule TBA

Dancing is incredibly fun and great physical activity for all ages. Dancers will work on rhythm, coordination and balance while learning ballet, tap and jazz techniques. Hip Hop, a high-energy, athletic style of dance where students learn jumps, kicks, turns and fun choreography similar to their favorite pop artists, will also be offered. Performance skills will sharpen as we prepare for a full-scale dance production at the end of the school year. Additional fee required for purchase of recital costumes. Dance instructor Susie Furlow has been teaching dance to children of all ages for over 14 years. She is a professional dancer and was a “Laker Girl” for 4 years. Girls and Boys are welcome!
KARATE FOR KIDS (All Grades) Mondays & Fridays

JK/K * Pre-Karate: A fun program for Kindergarten students consisting of 30-minute classes, offered twice a week. This class begins with the very basics of martial arts and helps teach young students to achieve self-discipline, self-control, self-confidence and teamwork.
1st-6th * Jr. Karate: A fun program for 1st through 6th Grade students consisting of 45-minute classes, offered once a week. This class contains the benefits mentioned in the Pre-Karate program, but also features self-defense instruction, physical conditioning, stretching, various reaction drills and training exercises. There is a one-time uniform fee. A family discount is offered, see instructor.
ACADEMIC CHESS (All Grades/All Levels) Fridays

Academic Chess teaches chess to elementary students using a dynamic and fun method of instruction. Students receive exclusive Academic Chess booklets according to skill level as the child progresses, as well as worksheets, puzzles, opportunities to advance to new levels and win prizes. Chess improves critical thinking skills, math skills and memory, increases attention span and patience through dealing with wins and losses.
TGA GOLF (All Grades) Thursdays - Advancing Levels

Introducing golf to thousands of youth nationwide, Total Golf Adventures teaches students the proper golf set-up, swing fundamentals and the game’s basic etiquette in a fun environment. Beginning at Yellow Level, TGA creates a framework for success and establishes a solid foundation for the 5 Level Program.

CREATIVITY WITH CLAY (K-6th) Thursdays

In the “Creativity with Clay” class, students have fun learning how to create hand-built projects with clay using “coil” and “slab” building techniques. In the six-week session, students will complete and “glaze” four separate projects such as clay masks and cereal bowls.

Drawing is a learnable skill! Young Rembrandts Children's Drawing Program combines a unique step-by-step method of teaching children how to draw while instilling life-long skills that lead to a child's overall personal success. Teaches various drawing/coloring techniques while encouraging creativity, building self-confidence and improving focus and problem solving.
MAD SCIENCE (K - 5th) Wednesdays

Mad Science sparks the imagination of children of all ages by providing them with fun, interactive and educational activities that instill a clearer understanding of science and how it affects the world around us. Children will get to learn by touching, feeling and even tasting their science experiments – leaving students inspired and hungry for more!
STOP ACTION ANIMATION (3th- 6th) Thursdays Max 10 Students

Nick Park, look out! Make your own Stop Action Animation Movie using Legos, clay and other everyday items. Students will create a sense of movement by taking a series of single pictures; moving objects a little each time. Finish it up using iMovie editing with special effects, transitions, music and sound effects. Class instructor is Computer Teacher, Joy Ames.

If you like to sing, find out how much more fun it is to sing with a group! Junior and Senior Chorus wear their own personalized shirts for performances at school and in the community. For almost 20 years, Mrs. von Oeyen has watched Pinecrest students “blossom” from their participation in choral music. She has over 30 years experience as a teacher and musician with such ensembles as the Los Angeles Master Choral, the Los Angeles Music Center Opera and the Roger Wagner Choral.

Increase your knowledge of the Spanish Language in this super fun, energetic class! Students will explore the world of Fiestas through crafts (think hand puppets!), dancing, singing and skits. Come join us and assist in design of costumes and scenery and offer up suggestions in ad-libbing dialogue. Have fun and learn, too! Fiesta Fridays are fun, fun, fun! Olé! |
