Davy Crockett
(aka Peter A.)
Hi! I am Davy Crockett. I was born at Limestone Creek on the Nolichucky River in Tennessee. People think I was born on August 17, 1786.
I loved my family. At this time in history, families could hire their children out, and the pay the child earned was turned over to the child's family. I was put to work for another family. I was so lonely, I ran away and returned home. My parents sent me to school, but I did not have a good relationship with the schoolmaster, and I ran away again. Eventually, I came home again. I helped my father out tremendously by plowing fields and cleaning to pay my father's debts.
I was a soldier in the Creek War. My wife, Polly didn't want me to go, but I had to do the right thing for the country. We won, with Commander Andrew Jackson as our leader. After the war, in 1814, Polly died. I remarried Elizabeth in 1816. For three years I was part of the Tennessee State Legislature. Though I haven't studied law, I was re-elected to Congress two times. No one knew how I died, but I died with 30 dead men around me.
