J.K. Rowling
(aka Melaina L.)
Hi! I'm Joanne Kathleen Rowling, also known as J.K. Rowling. I was born in 1965 in England. As a child I knew I wanted to be a writer.
I wrote my first story when I was six years ols. My sister, Di, and I played with Ian and Vicki Potter. I liked their last name, so I used it for the main character in my book.
I studied French and Classics at the University of Exeter. After I graduated I worked as a research assistant and later as a secretary. During a train ride to London, I suddenly came up with the idea of the Harry Potter book.
I got married and had a daughter, Jessica, while living in Portugal. I got a divorce and returned to Britain with my daughter. As a single parent, I struggled to make a living, but I continued to work on the Harry Potter story.
My first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published in 1997. I wrote a total of seven Harry Potter books. My books helped people expand their imagination.
I am married now and I am living happily in Scotland with my husband and two kids.
