Cocurricular Classes
Pinecrest has a full range of cocurricular programs available for our students as part of the curriculum. To find out more about these programs, go to the following links:
Art
Art Classes are provided regularly to all grades. Students are taught to use various types of art media and gain confidence in their ability to be creative. Our Art Teacher is Ms. Alanna McDaniel.
Technology@Pinecrest
Pinecrest students receive computer instruction weekly in our computer lab using a large variety of applications. Our computer teacher, Ms. Joy Ames, introduces HTML to the 6th grade students and stop-action animation to 5th graders. Computers are also available in all classrooms and the Resource Center. Internet access is available in the computer lab, Resource Center and all 3rd-6th grade classrooms.
Library
Students attend library classes each week. In addition to learning library skills, each child is encouraged to develop a love of books and reading. Our Librarian is Ms. Debbie Rock.
Music
We are very fortunate to have on our staff, music teacher Nancy von Oeyen, who sings with the Los Angeles Master Chorale. Mrs. von Oeyen, who has been at Pinecrest for over 20 years, has instilled in our students a love and understanding of all kinds of music. In addition to class, she leads lower and upper level chorus groups.
 Physical Education
Physical Education is an integral part of the Pinecrest program. Students attend P.E. classes daily and are taught the importance of regular exercise, as well as the skills in a variety of sports.
AFTER SCHOOL SPORTS teams are available on a seasonal basis to students in 3rd grade and up.
Spanish
Because foreign language instruction is so important for a well rounded curriculum, Spanish is taught at Pinecrest beginning in Preschool twice each week. We have two wonderful Spanish teachers: Senora Maria Miller (Grades 4- 6) and Señora Minette Dottori (Grades JK - 3). Students are taught about the Spanish cultures, as well as language, and are assigned projects, such as this one by the 6th graders, entitled "Mi Pueblo".
In addition to these classes that are an integral part of our Kindergarten through 6th grade curriculum, students have opportunities to participate in optional Discovery Classes after school. |
