Of all the traditional Chinese festivals, the New Year festival was perhaps the most elaborate, colorful and important. Ending the fifteen day festivities is the Lantern Festival. Under the light of the full moon, people parade the streets with a variety of lanterns, watch lions and dragons dance, play Chinese riddles and games and light fire crackers.
Our Art Club students have acknowledged this playful part of the Chinese culture by assembling colorful Chinese lanterns. They are made of construction paper and wrapping papers. The written characters on each lantern were created by using a paintbrush in very thin black paint, simulating the ancient art of calligraphy.
