Academic Policy
Homework:
Students are assigned homework at the discretion of the teacher. Included in homework are written assignments, class work, review, projects, reports, and test preparation. Students should use their planners in all classes. The planner will help students develop study and time management skills. The planner will become an excellent source of daily communication between school and home.
Grading System:
The school year is divided into two semesters. Student’s academic progress will be evaluated every five weeks. Semester grades will be decided as follows:
6th Grade:
1st Semester: 50% 1st quarter, 50% 2nd quarter
2nd Semester: 50% 3rd quarter, 50% 4th quarter
7th/8th Grade:
1st Semester: 40% 1st quarter, 40% 2nd quarter, 20% final exam.
2nd Semester: 40% 3rd quarter, 40% 4th quarter, 20% final exam.
Honor Roll:
All students who earn an A (4.0) grade point average with no (U’s) or (S-‘s) in Work Habits or Citizenship will be recognized at the end of each quarter. Students who maintain an A average throughout the entire semester will be placed on the semester honor roll.
Academic Probation:
If a student falls below a C (2.0) average, he/she will be placed on Academic Probation for a period of five weeks. Students on probation will be ineligible for athletics and/or extra curricular activities. Students who do not raise their grade point average to at least a 2.0 at the end of five weeks will remain on Academic Probation. Any student on Academic Probation for two consecutive quarters may be subject to dismissal from school.
Parent-Teacher Conferences:
At any time during the school year a parent or teacher may request a conference. To arrange a conference, please contact the classroom teacher or the Administrative Secretary.
