March 6-7, 2008 - Our 5th grade class experienced what it was like to be a colonial soldier for two days! Living, eating, sleeping, and breathing as if they were soldiers, students washed items, made their own candles, cooked their entire dinner, made adobe mud bricks, built toolboxes, and even worked in the blacksmith shop. After a hard days work all students were able to enjoy their dinner and some campfire stories. Falling asleep by lantern and candles proved to be just another part of a soldier's life.
Rising in the morning to the Corporal's loud calls, the students were greeted with a fulfilling breakfast and letters from home. Before heading back to campus, students were able to watch their teachers shoot a cannon and then participate in a friendly game of tug of war. Thank you to all of those who volunteered to make this field trip a memorable one.
