
CSI: Pinecrest
This project-oriented elective class engages children in scientific discovery as they work to solve mysteries. Applying real laboratory techniques, students work together in teams to analyze trace evidence, unknown substances, handwriting, fingerprints and even shoe prints left at the crime scene.
These highly engaging activities help students develop strong research and problem-solving skills in an atmosphere of fun and high interest!
Students will also engage in the analysis of hair and pollen samples, fiber samples, blood types, and learn about DNA profiling. They’ll test their powers of observation and try to use authentic lie detection techniques as they examine suspects’ statements.
In the culminating activity, students will analyze all of their findings and using their keen deductive reasoning, point their fingers at the guilty party.
Child Development
This course teaches students the various ways to interact and create activities involving preschool and kindergarten-aged children. The students will learn proper teaching techniques while working with younger students in a small group setting. Students will also learn responsibility while caring for their own child (The Egg Project) for an entire week. This is a great course for those who plan to baby-sit.
Home Economics
A fun and insightful course for those students who love to be creative. On a rotating schedule, students will learn to cook delicious meals and use proper table etiquette, create their own picture scrapbook album, and learn to sew various items. A $20.00 material fee is required for the course.
Keyboard
A fun-filled beginning keyboard class with Mr. Holmes. Learn to read music, harmonize, and play the keyboard while gaining knowledge in all aspects of music.
Art
This course provides the students with insight regarding artists of the various periods while learning to emulate the Masters. Students will cover artists ranging from the Renaissance Period to contemporary period. The students will also work with all types of medium including clay.
Each elective class lasts one semester. Students will select their classes in their homeroom the first week of school. In addition to the elective classes, all students will receive courses in Spanish, Music, Computer Lab, and Character Education. All sixth grade students are required to take a study skills course. |
