Now You Heat It, Now You Don't
by Jack M.
8th Grade - 2nd Place

Purpose: My Science Fair idea is to see which type of cup is the best insulator of heat.

Hypothesis: My hypothesis is that styrofoam will insulate the heat best of all because foams are good insulators. I don't think that the metal cup will retain much heat because metals are good conductors of heat.

Conclusion: My hypothesis was correct. The Styrofoam cup held heat best of all, and the metal cup got cold quicker than any other cup. The second best insulator was the thick, plastic cup, then the cardboard cup, the ceramic mug, the Dixie cup, the glass cup, and the seventh best insulator was the thin plastic cup. Maybe I should start to drink hot drinks in cardboard and thick plastic cups.
