How Do Earthworms See?
by Elina M.

Hypothesis: I did some research and almost every answer insisted that earthworms use magnetic fields to navigate. I am quite skeptical about this. I think this is wrong and earthworms are kind of like moles and use other senses.

Conclusion: My hypothesis was incorrect. As I touched the wires right next to each worm, it contracted. That means that the positive wire was near its head and the negative wire was near its rear. I switched the wires and it stretched out further, meaning the two were obviously switched. This is also a great way to figure out which end of the worm is which (although I hope you'd have a life and not want to spend your time testing which end of a worm is its bottom and which is its head)!

The reason this happens is because a weak electrical current flows through the worm's body from time to time, telling it the condition of its environment. So far scientists still don't know exactly why this happens, but it does. So by me "electrocuting" this earthworm, a very weak electrical current flowed through its body and told it which way to go because of his whereabouts. The worm actually was not harmed at all.
