Calcium Crisis
by Ashton F.
1st Grade, Room 1 - 2nd Place

Question: What happens to a bone when it loses calcium?

Hypothesis: Removing the calcium from a chicken bone will leave it rubbery and weak.

Conclusion: After two days, the bone soaked in water was hard and could not be cut. The bone soaked in vinegar was softer, but didn't bend and could not be cut. The bone soaked in CLR bent and was easy to cut with the scissors. The acid in the CLR dissolved the calcium in the chicken bone making it rubbery and weak.
