I am Ms. Karen Orland and I have been teaching at Pinecrest Schools for more than twenty years.  Throughout my years at Pinecrest, I have had the opportunity to be a part of four different Pinecrest campuses, and have taught various grades from first grade through middle school, and have been an administrator as well.  Since my favorite subject with all grade levels is math, I definitely enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for math with my middle school students. ? I am a graduate of California State University Northridge and have completed post-graduate work at Cal State University Northridge, UCLA Extension, and the University of LaVerne.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending quality time with my 18 year old son and the rest of our family and friends.  I also enjoy watching football or basketball as well as reading.

I believe that students thrive best in an environment that challenges them without frustrating them.  My favorite part of my job is helping students to explore math in ways that help them to become confident and independent.  The “lightbulb” moments when concepts become suddenly clear to students is my favorite part of every day!
