Making Rock Candy
by Matthew H.
3rd Grade - 1st Place

Question: How is rock candy made?

Hypothesis: Sugar crystals will continue to grow as the sugar solution evaporates.

Conclusion: After conducting the experiment, it was observed that sugar crystals began growing slower after 5-6 days in the sugar solution. Rather than let all the solution evaporate (Which will take a long time) it was faster to re-heat the solution as in the PROCEDURES and place the crystals back in the solution for 5-6 days. The crystals not only doubled in size, but became clearer and sparkled more.
